Renault Symbioz concept review

Image 1 of 26 Image 1 of 26 14 Dec, 2017 4:30pm Jonathan Burn We get a glimpse of the future as we test Renault's Symbioz concept, which promises autonomous driving, electric power and full connectivity This is the Renault Symbioz, and it represents everything Renault believes a passenger car will become by 2023 – it’s fully electric, features Level 4 autonomous driving functionality and can be connected to every ‘smart’ device you own. To see the technology in action Auto Express joined Renault’s engineers on a test drive in France.  The Symbioz concept was first rolled out at the Frankfurt motor show back in September as a ‘vision’ of what the future could be like in 2030. This running prototype doesn’t preview a physical production vehicle, but gives us a closer understanding of the technology and design that we’ll begin to see implemented on Renault’s products by 2023.  • Everything you need to know ... Renault ZOE Star Wars edition revealed ahead of ‘The Last Jedi’ release

Dan Smith 2017-12-14 15:10 1,000 Renault ZOE Star Wars will be built for the French market only, and is based loosely on Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon Renault has announced a special edition Star Wars-themed ZOE EV exclusively for the French market, coinciding with the latest release of the Star Wars movie franchise ‘The Last Jedi.’  Only 1,000 ZOE Star Wars will be made and all are earmarked for the far away French market, therefore Star Wars fans in the UK won’t be able to get their hands on one, unless they use the force. It has been painted in a livery reminiscent of Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon with decals on the bonnet, roof and rear bumper. Customers can opt for a choice of two white paint schemes, along with a shade of grey. For those on the Dark Side of the force, a black paint colour is available too.  Image 2 of 5 Image 2 of 5 Inside there’s purple accents around the interior, as well as a plaque on the doorsill that furth... Detroit Motor Show 2018: preview

Dan Smith 2017-12-13 13:15 The 2018 Detroit motor show is already shaping up nicely, so here are the headline cars we know will be making an appearance The New Year kicks off with the Detroit motor show, which opens its doors on 13 January. Known formally as the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Detroit has hosted the exhibition annually since 1987. Detroit is commonly referred to as Motor City, as it is the home of General Motors and Ford. Many of the new models taking to the stage at Detroit will be geared towards the American market, but we will see some big global debuts from Mercedes and Lexus. Below we round all there is to know about next year’s Detroit motor show.  • Best concept cars of the 2017 Frankfurt motor show Hyundai Hyundai’s quirky Veloster coupe never quite resonated with the UK market, but that hasn’t stopped the Korean manufacturer from developing a second-generation model. New 2018 Volkswagen Jetta teased ahead of Detroit Motor Show reveal

James Brodie 2017-12-11 17:26 Volkswagen's venerable Jetta saloon to enter seventh-generation next year, but UK buyers likely won't get it Volkswagen’s new Jetta saloon has been officially teased ahead of its full reveal at the Detroit motor show in January. Our first glimpse of the seventh-generation Jetta comes not long after the current sixth-generation car was axed from the UK line-up. • New Volkswagen Arteon review With the European saloon market feeling the squeeze thanks to the advance of SUVs and crossovers, VW has dropped its smallest saloon offering in Britain, leaving just the Passat and new Arteon. The car seen here has been designed with foreign markets – particularly the North American market – in mind, and is unlikely to go on sale in Britain. The teaser sketch issued by Volkswagen suggests that the next Jetta will take some design inspiration from the new Arteon. At the front, what appears to be a new, broader grille... [more]

Tesla Model S Shooting Brake estate offered by Dutch coachbuilder

Dan Smith 2017-12-11 14:35 Dutch coachbuilder RemetzCar plans to assemble 20 electric shooting brakes based on the Tesla Model S and designed by Niels van Roij A London-based Dutch car designer has led a team to create a shooting brake variant of the Tesla Model S all-electric saloon. The unofficial Tesla estate will be built by Dutch coachbuilder RemetzCar. No photos of the ultra-exclusive shooting brake have been seen yet but the firm has released sketches of the electric estate that show where standard Model S design features are carried over. The front and rear lights, wheels and some of the bodywork from the Model S would appear to be retained but the car gets a longer roofline giving rise to a more practical rear end. • Best electric cars to buy now Only 20 examples of the electric shooting brake will be built by RemetzCar, a coachbuilder based just outside Amsterdam that specialises in converting ordinary cars into stretch limousines. New 2021 baby MINI SUV shaping up

Steve Fowler 2017-12-11 09:25 Second MINI SUV to join range, sitting below the Countryman, as Brit brand embraces electric future MINI will take advantage of the continuing SUV boom by launching a smaller sister car to the Countryman, Auto Express can exclusively reveal. The new model – previewed in our exclusive images – won’t join the range until 2021 at the earliest, making use of the brand’s next generation of chassis technology – and that means electric power will be a given for the new small SUV. According to a source close to MINI, the new model is likely to be similar in footprint to today’s five-door car, but another MINI SUV larger than today’s Countryman has been ruled out. Speaking to Auto Express at the Los Angeles motor show, member of the BMW board of management Peter Schwarzenbauer said: “That would not fit with MINI’s DNA – we would not make a seven-seater or something like that. “I think a Countryman is the max...
