Jaguar Land Rover to spread new naming strategy across entire portfolio

Jordan Katsianis 27 Sep 2017 As of next year, all Jaguar Land Rover models will receive new designations to more easily distinguish different engine types and outputs within the model ranges. In a photograph taken by Don Etchells, a reader of our sister title Auto Express, a Jaguar F-Type was spotted wearing the new nomenclature, pointing towards a range-wide change.  Already in use in the new Range Rover Velar, the new badging will consist of a letter denoting the engine type followed by a number representing metric horsepower. The image depicts a P380 AWD badge on the rear of a Jaguar F-Type – likely referring to the use of Jaguar’s 3-litre supercharged V6 engine producing 380ps (374bhp) connected to an all-wheel drive system. > Click here for our review of the Range Rover Velar  As JLR also heads towards a wider range of electrified hybrid and pure EV models like the upcoming I-Pace, the company is expected to use the letter E to represent su... Eagle-eyed Auto Express reader Don Etchells spotted an F-Type on test that was revealing its new P380 AWD badging. The P stands for petrol, while the 380 refers to the power output in horsepower. Similarly, the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder model will be badged P300. The Range Rover Velar range kicks off with a D180 diesel model, with the range topping model badged P380 using the same supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine as the F-Type. Is Jaguar Land Rover really looking to buy a new luxury brand?

2017-09-26 12:50 Rumours circulating online about JLR in talks to acquire new car brands are wide of the mark but nothing is being ruled out Jaguar Land Rover is looking at the acquisition of a new luxury or technology brand, according to a Bloomberg report posted online. A JLR spokesperson denied the rumours, but didn’t rule out opportunities in the future.  The Bloomberg article suggests Jaguar Land Rover is already in talks with several manufacturers. The one parameter is, allegedly, that the chosen brand must fit JLR’s current portfolio of luxury vehicles, which alone make up a huge 78 per cent of parent company Tata Motors’ revenue. However, a source close to the brand has quashed the suggestions, hinting that while it will always look at ways of strengthening its position in the market, no such talks were currently taking place.  Bloomberg says JLR wants to bulk up its range of vehicles, as senior officials believe that is the only way to stay c... Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid revealed

Will Beaumont 26 Sep 2017 Porsche has taken its 671bhp Turbo S E-Hybrid drivetrain and added it to its Panamera estate, the Sport Turismo, to create not only an impressively fast car but an exceptionally practical one too.  The Turbo S E-Hybrid’s drivetrain is partly made up by the twin-turbo hot-V 4-litre V8 engine that’s found in the regular Turbo model. The internal combustion engine produces a more than healthy 542bhp, yet it’s still aided by a 134bhp electric motor. The way hybrid powertrains work means those figures can’t simply be added to get a total output, but the Panamera’s total of 671bhp isn’t far from the sum of those figures. > Read our review of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid As you’d expect, with the help of an electric motor and turbochargers, the Turbo S E-Hybrid has a massive amount of torque; the two motors endow it with 627lb ft. With a boost strategy taken from the 918 Spyder – even though that was a natur... [more]
