Mitsubishi revive Evolution nameplate! On crossover SUV concept...

Jordan Katsianis 20 Sep 2017 The 2017 Tokyo motor show is bound to throw up a few interesting surprises when it kicks off next month, but news of a new Mitsubishi e-EVOLUTION concept is definitely something that caught our eye.  Unfortunately, for those hoping for a contemporary re-hash of the iconic rally-bred saloon car might well be disappointed because it looks like the nameplate will be fixed to the boot of  ‘crossover’ SUV. While this will be a disappointment for many, it fits in with the Japanese brand's plans to play heavily on its off-roading roots and to become an EV market leader. > Click here for our review of the Mitsubishi Evo X Mitsubishi has remained coy when it comes to specifics, only giving away that the concept will utilise and electrified all-wheel drive drivetrain under a ‘low-slung’ SUV-coupe body. Built to represent the planned first step of Mitsubishi’s renaissance after being acquired by the Nissan-Renault alliance... [more]

“Buyers too accepting of inadequate reliability”

Graham Hope 2017-09-20 12:30 Editor Graham Hope considers modern cars and thinks drivers of today are too forgiving when it comes to faults Walking around the stands at the Frankfurt motor show last week, it struck me just what a golden age for car development this is. There were family cars, supercars, F1-inspired cars, electric cars, hybrid cars, cars in houses (!), autonomous cars and cars from parts of the world that seemed very foreign indeed when I started out in this business. It was a majestic display of the quite extraordinary pace of change in this most compelling of industries. • Most reliable cars to buy All these diverse products have one thing in common, though. When I finally get the chance to drive – or be driven in – them, I want them to work. Flawlessly. There is nothing I find more frustrating than having a great car at your disposal and then encountering problems (as I discovered earlier this year when I ran an Audi SQ7, and... [more]

If you’re looking for a great lease deal on a new car, you might want to avoid the bottom tier of the market. That’s CarsDirect's conclusion after analyzing over 560 leases to see which ones stood out as supremely bad deals. While at face value, logic would seem to dictate that cheap cars translate to cheap leases, the reality is very...... [more]

As such, the new e-Evolution will be closer to the Mitsubishi ASX or Outlander PHEV than the giant killing saloons, and will showcase where the company plans to go in the future. • Best hybrid SUVs This Japanese manufacturer’s new SUV, will use the marque’s 4WD electric drivetrain and feature a ‘low-slung’ profile, as shown in a teaser of the e-Evolution released by Mitsubishi. Revealing enough sharp edges and ‘aerodynamic’ features to rival the Toyota C-HR, it suggests there is a new design language on the cards for the brand. Toyota reveals new hot GR series sub brand

James Brodie 2017-09-19 15:40 Japanese market set to be flooded with sporty new Toyotas, and UK equivalent is under consideration Toyota has revealed plans to create a hot new GR sub-brand, with a vast rollout of new products for the firm’s home Japanese market detailed. While the new GR series models outlined so far are for Japan only, Toyota has said it plans to sell GR series cars outside its home market eventually. Super rare 964 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring up for sale

Jordan Katsianis 19 Sep 2017 A very special Porsche 911 is about to go under the hammer at the next Silverstone Auctions this October. We all know about the stripped-out 964 Carrera RS, but that car was also available in a lesser known ‘Touring’ spec along the same lines as the recently announced GT3 Touring that starred at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show. Sharing the mildly upgraded powertrain of the Carrera RS, the Carrera RS Touring put back in some of the luxuries stripped from the standard car, but maintained the chassis upgrades that made the Carrera RS such a hit. > Click here for all you need to know about the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring  Featuring lower, stiffer springs and dampers, the 964’s sometimes spikey handling reputation was stabilised, up to a point, by better controlling the rear-mounted engine's weight transfer. More substantial suspension bushes, engine mounts and ‘unibal’ top strut mounts also contributed to this extra ... [more]

Audi RS5 review

For  Huge performance, great cruiser, top interior Our Rating  4 Against  Not as fun as rivals, dull engine, not exciting enough 2017 New Audi RS5 is incredibly fast and comfortable, but it’s not as fun as rivals The Audi RS5 is incredibly fast in a straight line, sticks like little else in the corners and yet it’s refined, comfortable and easy to live with at the same time. However, buyers can get 90 per cent of that feeling from a slightly less powerful car in the A5 range, the S5 being the obvious choice - and this top-end model just isn’t as sharp as its high-performance rivals from BMW and Mercedes. It’s also missing a crucial ingredient that made previous models fun - a great engine. The new model’s V6 is just too plain to make an impact. 18 Sep, 2017 4.5 Many buyers will be happy knowing that their car is the fastes... [more]
