New Kia Ceed range set to grow to four models
Steve Fowler 2018-06-18 15:30 VW Golf-rivalling hatch and estate to be joined by shooting brake with SUV likely, too The new third-generation Kia Ceed hatchback will be joined by two all-new body styles, as well as the already revealed Sportswagon estate.  The new hatchback goes on sale in August with the Sportswagon arriving towards the end of the year. However, Kia has confirmed that the third model, a shooting brake, will be unveiled at the Paris motor show in October. • New Kia Ceed review Auto Express understands that this new version could take the Proceed name, previously used on the old Cee’d three-door model and also used for the shooting brake concept shown at last year’s Frankfurt motor show. And like the new hatch, it’ll lose the apostrophe and the underscore from its name. Following on from the new Proceed will be a further variant of the Ceed family, which is likely to be an SUV. New Kia Ceed 2018 review

Image 1 of 30 Image 1 of 30 18 Jun, 2018 8:00am Steve Fowler Kia's new Ceed hatchback goes on sale in August, but is it on par with the Volkswagen Golf and upcoming Ford Focus? Kia’s a car company with confidence right now. Its Stinger executive saloon has proven a genuine challenger to the German elite, so this third generation Ceed arrives with a spring in its step (and without the pointless apostrophe of the previous two models) to take on the Volkswagen Golf, new Mercedes A-Class and forthcoming Ford Focus. There’s more than a hint of Stinger to the new Ceed’s look. It’s lower and wider than before with a broader tiger nose grille and swept back lights, while this newly confident Kia talks about a more engaging drive – we’ll see about that later. • Best hatchbacks on sale 2018 While the overall length of the car hasn’t changed, the rear overhang has grown to enlarge the boot, and the interior has been given ... New Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2018 facelift review

Image 1 of 17 Image 1 of 17 14 Jun, 2018 4:00pm Alex Ingram The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been updated, with a new electric motor and a new 2.4-litre engine taking centre stage. We try it out... To say it’s a surprise that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is still the only reasonably affordable plug-in hybrid SUV on sale is something of an understatement.  It’s been around since 2013, yet no other manufacturer has yet produced a direct rival in the sub-£40,000 price bracket - a crucial figure for company car tax rates. Given that the Outlander is the biggest selling plug-in hybrid car in both the UK and Europe, it’s a pretty big bandwagon that others have seemingly missed. Probably because it rolled silently by in EV-mode.  • Best hybrid SUVs on the market But it won’t be long before that changes. There are more expensive alternatives already - the Volvo XC60 T8, for example - and the Kia Niro plug-in offers SUV style... [more]

New Jaguar XE facelift spied for the first time

Richard Ingram 2018-06-14 10:15 Mid-life refresh for Jaguar XE saloon will bring new styling and possible mild-hybrid tech when it launches in 2019 The forthcoming facelift for the Jaguar XE has been spied on the road for the very first time. The car was caught testing around the firm’s HQ in the West Midlands, ahead of its launch in 2019.  While the car in these pictures is heavily camouflaged, Jaguar isn’t expected to change the car’s styling too much with its first proper refresh. Expect slimmer LED lights front and rear, as well as tweaked bumpers and fresh interior trim. We could see the implementation of new semi-autonomous tech, as well as infotainment upgrades across the range. • Best executive cars on sale But the biggest changes are likely to feature under the skin. With Jaguar recently launching its revolutionary I-Pace SUV, it looks well set to forge ahead with its extensive plans for future electromobility. As a result, the XE i... [more]

All-new 2019 Audi A6 Allroad spied testing

Richard Ingram 2018-06-13 17:00 The next-generation Audi A6 Allroad has been spied on the road, ahead of its launch at the Paris motor show This is our first look at the forthcoming Audi A6 Allroad, which is set to join the saloon and Avant in the firm’s large executive car line-up next year. It’ll rival the Volvo V90 Cross Country and replace the current A6 Allroad when it launches early in 2019. It'll likely be revealed at the Paris motor show this autumn. While the pictures appear to show little more than a camouflaged A6 Avant, look closely and there are a few tell-tale signs that we’re looking at something a bit different. The first clue is the ride height, which is visibly higher than the standard A6. The bumpers are wider, too, and the sills and wheelarches have been injected with a bit more off-road attitude as well. • New 2018 Audi A6: prices and specs Little else appears to have changed, so the familiar Audi grille, sharp LED lights... Vauxhall to show ‘expressive’ new concept in coming months

Jonathan Burn 2018-06-12 15:40 New Vauxhall concept car on the way, while four electrified models are due by 2020 Vauxhall will debut an ‘expressive’ new concept car in the coming months previewing the brand’s new design language. And it will give us a glimpse of what to expect from the new Corsa supermini due in 2019.  A teaser image flashed up during a press conference gives us a clue as to how the new concept will look. Likely to be an evolution of the GT Concept that was first shown at the Geneva motor show back in 2016, the concept is also designed to give us a look further into Vauxhall’s future product plans.  “The concept is where we are going with the brand portfolio in the future,” Vauxhall’s Vice-President of design Mark Adams told Auto Express. “You’ll get some of the flavor and some of the ingredients but we’re trying to push the boundary with the concept beyond the Corsa.” The design of the next generation Corsa... Brexit to make UK a “second-hand dealer” in car safety

Hugo Griffiths 2018-06-12 15:45 Head of Global NCAP says leaving EU will turn Britain into a rule taker, not a rule maker, for car safety regulation One of the world’s leading car safety experts has said leaving the EU will render the UK a “second-hand dealer” in vehicle safety and emission standards. David Ward, secretary general of the Global New Car assessment Programme (Global NCAP), has said leaving the EU will have see the UK “withdrawing from a complex eco-system of vehicle regulation that has hugely improved car safety and saved tens of thousands of lives”. • Brexit offers “no advantages” to UK carmakers, say MPs Ward - whose Global NCAP organisation promotes vehicle safety and crash-test research, and facilitates cooperation between organisations like Euro NCAP and its worldwide counterparts - wrote on his personal website that Brexit will have “profound implications for the interests of the public and our automotive indust...
